A Tribute to a Man of Character

The Caribbean American Tri-State community lost a prominent stalwart and supporter on December 10th.
Hailing from the land of calypso and steel band Vincent Huggins never let grass grow under his feet and he never
backed down when he believed in a cause… and he believed in many, as is evident in the number of words of
thanks and accolades across the community many of us from the Caribbean climes who’ve made the U.S. our
home and those here have come to share.
To have known Vincent aka Vinny aka Vince aka Junior to his family aka the life of every room he entered and
the love of the woman he pledged his life to 40 years ago was to have known a man of character, integrity and
strength. He set an example of a man’s man in his role as husband, father, employer and friend; the rarity of such
character in one humble man is notable in that he never let you feel inadequate.
If you knew this man you were fortunate because you saw an example of what it meant to be all you can be
without fear; without worry that you’re giving too much; without care that not everyone would like you. He
inspired, sheltered, covered and enhanced. He taught men how to let go and let love; he taught his children what
family is; he loved his grandchildren unconditionally and he gave his friends the same consistency that said this is
being alive, this is being a man and this is being a Christian.
He was unapologetic in his total love for his wife and no one doubted their devotion to each other. Their love was
predestined and even as he left us his last words to her were his favorite to her “I love you”. The honor of
knowing him, Lynn and their children is one that has touched, blessed and encouraged many. Thank you is too
small a way to say how much his life meant to many of us but indeed we thank you Vincent and we celebrate you
for the Spirit of life, love and legacy that you are.
